Mission Statement:
"The Kantzler Foundation provides financial support for charitable projects and programs that directly benefit the residents of Bay County, Michigan, in areas such as education, science, arts, culture, human services, conservation, beautification and recreation."
While the Foundation has supported requests for equipment, programming, planning, scholarships, and specific operating expenses on a case by case basis, the primary focus has been directed toward the development or acquisition of tangible community assets, attractions and facilities. (See our Grant History for details.)
The Foundation seeks opportunities to support projects which benefit large population segments and contribute to a master plan for a safe, healthy, and vibrant community. Kantzler Foundation resources are used to encourage and reward coordination and collaboration between and among organizations.
All projects and proposals are judged for their feasibility, quality, and potential long-term benefit to the community. Priority is given to projects that will have a multiplier effect: addressing several needs or population segments, creating resources and momentum for additional projects, involving more people and organizations in the cause of community betterment. The board favors proposals and projects with realistic long-term sustainability.
Applicants are expected to explore all other possible sources of funding while submitting a proposal to the Foundation. The Foundation will not typically provide the entire support for a project and will give those projects with broad financial support a higher priority in review.
The financial assets of the Kantzler Foundation are invested for growth and income. Since the trust was established to exist in perpetuity for the benefit of future generations, the two-fold investment objective is: (1) to grow the principal portfolio over time to keep pace with inflation, and (2) to generate sufficient current income to support the needs of a growing community.
