Downtown Management Board and Development Authority – In 2005, a group of key stakeholders came together to create a strategy for the redevelopment of Wenonah Park to meet today and tomorrow’s needs for daily use of the park, and for special events and activities.
A Master Plan was designed that permits phased construction of the proposed improvements over multiple years, as funding becomes available. Phase I included a Riverwalk promenade, with seating, steps and access ramps to the river, decorative seating and overlook of the river with café seating, and improved mooring facilities with utility and seawall upgrades.
The total cost of Phase I was $1,250,000, with $1,100,000 coming from the Department of Natural Resources, and additional $600,000 from the Downtown Management Board, and $110,000 from the Kantzler Foundation, and additional funds from the Russell and Maxine Smith Foundation.
